Renaming USB Drive Labels in Linux

You will be using the mlabel command.

1. First type the mount command to find out the device location of you pen drive. Find the line which goes like “/dev/sdc1 on /media/disk …”.

2. This means the device sdc1 which is my pen drive is mounted on /media/disk.

3. Next unmount the device.

sudo unmount /media/disk

4. Next use this command.

sudo mlabel -i /dev/sdc1 ::

If you get a message like:
Total number of sectors (7831520) not a multiple of sectors per track (63)!
You can easily ignore the check by running this command:

echo mtools_skip_check=1 >> ~/.mtoolsrc

Try again and it should work.

5. The name of the USB should have changed. Unplug and Plug the pen drive back in and it will be mounted with the new label name.

The GUI way

1. For this you need the Gparted software. Install it if you don’t have it already.

2. Open the software as a super user, and select the pen drive from GParted>Devices>

3. Unmount the device if it hasn’t been, by right clicking on it.

4. After unmounting, right click on it and select “Label” and change it to whatever you want it to be. And then Apply it, by clicking the Edit>Apply All Operations.

5. Your pendrives label should be changed now.

Yes, it is a pretty around the way method. But unfortunately, nautilus doesn’t currently support partition renaming. Hope it’s there in Karmic Koala!

differance between core 2 duo and duel core

Many people are confused what exactly the difference between Intel Core 2 Duo and Between Intel Pentium D or Intel Dual Core processors….

Pentium D is nothing but 2 Prescott Processors side by side… runs very hot, not a good OverClocker…

Intel Core 2 Duo processors are next gen processors from Intel on 65 nm platform… developed from Ground up with new Architecture called Core… so they are whole new Processors just Jump like Pentium 2 to Pentium 3 or Pentium 4… Expect one Core 2 Duo Lowest End Processors like E4400/E4300 taking up and beating Intel Pentium D 3.8 GHz ones with ease … runs damn cool and super over clocker…

Intel Dual Core Processors are just launched striped down version of Core 2 Duos.. there are 2 in Market for Desktop range, E2140 runs at 1.6 GHz with 1 MB L2 and 800 MHz FSB and E2160 with 1.8 GHz with same specs of E2140…. these are not Pentium D rather they are same batch like Core 2 Duo based on the new Core Technology…. they perform same like Core 2 Duos but they were launched with a very low price to counter the market of super low cost but high performer AMD X2 range line up to AMD X2 4000….

Restore Previously Open Folders After Shutdown

If you need to access lot of folders on your home computer or on the network regularly, then you can set them re-open automatically, when you will login, shutdown or restart your computer next time. There is no need to open regularly used folders manually, just configure the simple sitting, your computer will automatically reload all the previously opened windows.

By default windows XP disables this option to reload automatically all the previously opened windows, when you login on, shutdown or restart your computer.

Follow the given steps to configure your computer to reload previously opened folders automatically after shutdown.

1. To edit this feature, you will need to be logged into your computer with administrative rights.
2. First click on Start button then go to Control Panel.
3. Open the “Appearance and Themes” option in control panel then click on Folder Options.
4. A small windows dialog box will appear with the title “Folder options”, click on View tab.
5. Under the Advanced setting section, scroll down to bottom and click the “Restore previous folder windows at logon” option and then click Ok button to save sitting.
6. Now when you log off, restart or shutdown, your computer will automatically open the previously opened folders from the same location as before.
